How Do I Help During Pregnancy and Childbirth
As a birth doula I can:
- talk about the physiology of childbirth, methods of natural and drug pain relief, the role of a partner in childbirth
- help to draw up a birth plan
- provide information about breastfeeding and the postpartum period, and also help to establish breastfeeding
- provide emotional support to you and your partner, work through fears and anxieties associated with childbirth and future motherhood
- provide up-to-date information on pregnancy and childbirth with links to trusted sources
- be continuously next to you during the childbirth
- create comfortable conditions during childbirth with the help of candles, music, dim light, essential oils
- use natural methods of pain relief: breathing, massage, rebozo, changing positions, dancing, visualization, affirmations, hypnosis, aromatherapy
- help you gently and delicately defend your rights in childbirth
- facilitate communication between you, your partner and midwives and doctors
It is important to understand that the doula:
- has no medical education and is not a medical professional
- does not perform any medical manipulations (including checking the dilatation of the cervix)
- does not provide medical advice or diagnosis.
